Wasatch County Search & Rescue
OUR GOAL IS TO ASSIST ANYONE,
ANYTIME, ANYWHERE
When the report comes into the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Department that someone is lost then the next step is to call out the Wasatch County Search & Rescue. This all volunteer group of thirty six men and women are on call twenty four hours a day to respond to anyone in need of assistance.
Wasatch County Search & Rescue is made up of specialized teams that in the summer can respond to water accidents, diver recoveries, ATV, horse, and foot searches. During the winter search teams are trained in snowmobile searches and avalanche recovery skills. Wasatch County Search & Rescue also has the capability of providing aircraft for air searches.
The search and rescue unit is under the control of Wasatch County Sheriff Todd Bonner and provides hundreds of volunteer hours performing their search duties. They not only respond to searches in Wasatch County but are also available to other counties at any time for major emergencies.
Volunteers for search and rescue are selected from applicants who have knowledge of outdoor skills and a dedication to be able to respond at any time to an emergency call. Each member is also required to improve their skills by attending mandatory training each year.
The Wasatch County Search & Rescue organization is considered one of the top units of its type in the entire United States. During the past several years many people owe their lives to the quick action and skill that they used when called upon to provide a search.
